Voters need an incentive to go to the polls in Thursday’s election, said Green Party MEP for London, Jean Lambert.
The Green Party is urging for concrete decisions to be taken on environmental issues and calls for a united European Union (EU). “These are international issues that require international agreement,” Ms Lambert told The London File.
The MEP explained how the EU needs to attract support with a new set of goals that people can relate to and how people need a new reason to believe in international cooperation.
Londoners have little knowledge of the changes and policies that the city’s MEPs are advocating, according to a survey by The London File.
One participant, London-based businessman Joseph Garabette, 63, said he supports the Green Party because he agrees with their environmental concerns.
Yet he also supports the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP), which doesn’t want political union with EU in fear of having home legislation being laid out by an external body.
Mr Garabette’s support for two parties that stand on opposite sides of the spectrum in terms of what they’re offering city voters – the Green Party being pro-EU and UKIP being extremely anti-EU – reflects the misconceptions among Londoners as to what is at stake in this week’s elections.
